BOV Fund Services Marks 20 Years at the Heart of Malta's Funds Industry
BOV Fund Services (BOVFS) is celebrating two decades as a key player in Malta’s funds sector, tracing its roots back to September 2006. This was when it was incorporated as Valletta Fund Services and took over the fund administration business of Valletta Fund Management, itself established in 1995 through a joint venture between Bank of Valletta (BOV)and Rothschild & Co Asset Management.
In the years since, BOVFS has grown into a leading fund administration provider, evolving alongside Malta’s emergence as a well-established EU fund domicile. It offers a broad suite of services spanning fund structuring, fund accounting, shareholder registry, regulatory reporting and company secretarial support. The company marked the anniversary at an event bringing together those who have shaped its journey over the past 20 years.
Kenneth Farrugia, CEO of BOV and BOVFS’s first General Manager, reflected on the values underpinning the company's longevity, pointing to trust, commitment and professionalism as defining features of its two decades in business. He noted that this also reaffirmed BOV’s broader commitment to strengthening Malta’s funds sector as part of its role in supporting the national economy.
Dr Diane Bugeja, Chairperson of BOVFS, highlighted the company’s ability to adapt through a constantly shifting regulatory landscape, framing the anniversary as both a celebration of past achievements and a moment to look ahead with confidence. General Manager and Director Loredano Agius pointed to the road ahead, noting that evolving investor expectations will demand faster, more digital client interaction, without compromising the robust controls the industry depends on.
A fully owned subsidiary of BOV and a Class C Company Service Provider licensed by the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) , BOVFS has broadened its offering considerably over the past 20 years. This is to keep pace with fund managers’ increasingly complex structures and strategies, including, more recently, digital assets, positioning it to continue playing a central role in Malta's funds industry for years to come.
