Malta Deepens Ties with Delta Air Lines and BlackRock on Connectivity and Investment
Malta continues to strengthen international connectivity and investment, with senior government representatives, including the Prime Minister, meeting Delta Air Lines and BlackRock in New York to discuss air links and continued investment in the country.
Talks with Delta centred on extending the airline’s new Malta-New York route into 2027, a service government officials say has already opened up fresh opportunities in the American market since launching earlier this year. The extension of the route is viewed as confidence in Malta’s tourism sector and wider economy, strengthening economic ties between Malta and the US.
In a separate meeting, BlackRock representatives discussed further investment in Malta, with government officials pointing to the economy’s recent performance and the country’s stability as factors supporting continued interest from international investors. The talks form part of a wider effort to attract investment into strategic, innovative sectors, with officials stressing that Malta must remain competitive for international investors while ensuring the investment it attracts continues to generate quality jobs for Maltese and Gozitan workers.
Taken together, the meetings reflect Malta’s dual strategy of growing physical connectivity, through new flight routes that bring investors, tourists and business travellers closer to Malta, while also courting the kind of institutional capital that can support longer-term economic growth. With direct access to the US market now in place via the Delta route, Malta’s ability to translate that connectivity into sustained investment interest, from BlackRock and others, will be one to watch in the months ahead.
