Mastercard Day Launches In Malta With Weekly Cashback

Mastercard has launched its “Mastercard Day” programme in Malta for the first time, turning every Tuesday into a dedicated rewards day for cardholders. The initiative offers €10 cashback to consumers who spend a total of €50 at supermarkets on Tuesdays, with the inaugural cycle running from the 5th May through to the 30th June.

The campaign applies to Mastercard cardholders from Maltese banks and covers both in-store and online supermarket purchases nationwide. Eligible cashback is credited automatically once qualifying transactions are completed and validated, with each card able to benefit once per month and the offer available to a limited number of cards. The structure rewards regular consumer spending while requiring no additional steps from cardholders at the checkout.

Mastercard Day forms part of the company’s wider strategy to bring tangible everyday value closer to consumers, building on familiar habits rather than complex redemption schemes. The supermarket category was chosen as the launch focus because it represents one of the most significant destinations for weekly household spending, giving the programme an immediate and recognisable touchpoint with Maltese families.

Panagiotis Polydoros, Country Manager of Mastercard for Greece, Cyprus and Malta, said the initiative was designed to deliver meaningful value through a simple mechanism that fits seamlessly into consumers’ routines. He explained that Mastercard Day connects an everyday habit with an immediate and tangible benefit, reinforcing the card's role in daily life.

The supermarket promotion is intended to be the first chapter of a longer rollout, with further reward categories signalled for the months ahead. By embedding rewards within existing bank relationships, the programme strengthens the ecosystem connecting global payment networks, local financial institutions, and Maltese consumers.
