UK engineering company Forth is in advanced talks to open its first European base in Malta, marking a significant step in the company’s international growth. The firm, which currently operates three bases in Cumbria, would establish a new legal entity, Forth Malta Ltd, as it brings its specialist engineering expertise to the Mediterranean for the first time.

The opportunity began when Malta Enterprise approached the company after officials saw innovations Forth had shared on its social media channels. Managing director Mark Telford and projects director Graham Cartwright were subsequently invited to meet government officials to discuss opening a base in the country.

Telford praised Malta’s ambition and approach, describing it as a place that combines foresight with a willingness to make things happen. He recalled that an initial email from Malta Enterprise led to an online call that left the team intrigued, prompting a visit during which they learned about the support available to attract the kind of business Malta is targeting.

Forth's existing portfolio specialises in bespoke engineering solutions for clients across the nuclear, renewable, and oil and gas sectors. The company has particular experience in nuclear decommissioning, deep-water recovery, inspection services, and renewable energy projects.

Telford described it as an exciting time for the company, with the chance to bring its innovative engineering approach and sustainable employment model to a country willing to invest in business infrastructure. Once paperwork is signed, recruitment will begin, with the managing director overseeing operations in what would be a notable addition to Malta's growing engineering and technology landscape.
