As artificial intelligence becomes more deeply embedded in financial services, the ability to identify and address its vulnerabilities has become a critical skill for regulators, compliance professionals, and industry practitioners alike. The Malta Financial Services Authority’s (MFSA) Financial Supervisory Academy (FSA) is addressing this growing need head-on with a dedicated workshop on Spotting AI System Vulnerabilities on the 17th July, a timely and practical session for those navigating the fast-evolving landscape of AI governance in finance.
Leading the workshop is Maria Lucia Passador, Assistant Professor of Corporate Law and Financial Markets Regulation at Bocconi University. Professor Passador brings specialist expertise in the intersection of law, financial regulation, and emerging technologies, offering participants an academically rigorous yet practically grounded perspective on AI oversight.
The session is designed to equip attendees with both the conceptual framework and the analytical tools needed to assess AI systems critically. Participants will explore the fundamentals of AI governance and why robust oversight mechanisms are essential in a financial context. The workshop will cover bias detection: examining how algorithmic bias can emerge, what it looks like in practice, and how it can be identified and mitigated.
Explainability will also be a key theme, addressing the challenge of making AI decision-making legible and accountable to regulators and stakeholders. Rounding out the agenda is supervisory risk oversight, with a focus on how financial supervisors and compliance teams can develop the tools and frameworks to monitor AI systems effectively.
The FSA’s training programmes are tailored for a broad audience: industry practitioners, board members, senior management, and representatives from regulatory and international institutions. Whether you are responsible for overseeing AI systems within your organisation, advising on compliance frameworks, or simply looking to build your understanding of AI risk, this workshop offers a focused and expert-led deep dive into one of the most pressing challenges in modern financial regulation.
If this particular session doesn’t fit your schedule, the FSA has a packed calendar of training courses throughout July, covering a wide range of financial services topics.
