Startup Festival Week Malta 2025 Was a Resounding Success

Malta's fifth annual Startup Festival Week concluded on October 24, marking a significant milestone for the Mediterranean nation's thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem. Held from October 20-24, 2025, the expanded five-day celebration attracted participants from across the globe, reinforcing Malta's position as a dynamic hub for innovation and technology.

The festival evolved considerably from previous editions, growing from a single two-day event into a comprehensive week-long programme. With over 2,500 registered attendees representing more than 40 countries, the festival demonstrated Malta's growing international appeal as a startup destination. The event featured keynote speeches from prominent figures including entrepreneur Caspar Lee, British racing driver Nicolas Hamilton, and local innovators, alongside engaging panel discussions and hands-on workshops.


The event opened with positive news for Malta’s digital and creative industry as WEVR, an American company based in Los Angeles that specialises in immersive and interactive experiences, announced that it will open a studio in Malta. Minister for Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects, Silvio Schembri said that this is a vote of confidence in the Maltese ecosystem, where the experience of international companies like Wevr is joining local potential in the fields of film, video games and digital media.

A highlight of the festival was the Pitch Black Competition, which returned for its second edition with enhanced structure. Fourteen startups competed in semi-finals on October 22, with eight finalists advancing to compete for substantial prize packages. The pre-seed winner received support valued at over €125,000, while the seed category winner secured a package exceeding €350,000, including equity financing from the Malta Venture Capital Fund.


The festival emphasized sustainable entrepreneurship throughout its programming, with dedicated sessions exploring green initiatives, responsible business practices, and long-term ecosystem development. Malta Enterprise unveiled new initiatives designed to further empower startups, strengthening the island's commitment to fostering innovation and technology across diverse sectors including FinTech, BioTech, EdTech, and digital gaming.


The festival concluded with a unique Corporate Social Responsibility event featuring renowned designers Charles & Ron, blending fashion, culture, and compassion. This innovative finale underscored Malta Enterprise's commitment to demonstrating that entrepreneurship encompasses not only business growth but meaningful community contribution, solidifying Malta's reputation as a Mediterranean launchpad for global innovation.
