A scam awareness portal, ScamAlert.mt, has been launched to provide consumers with a central source of information on scam prevention, bringing together alerts, practical guidance and educational resources in a single place. The website is designed to help consumers recognise scams, understand new and emerging threats, and find clear advice on how to protect themselves.

The portal has been developed jointly by the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), the Malta Police Force and the Office of the Arbiter for Financial Services. The three bodies have pooled their expertise to create a central resource that consumers can turn to for trusted, up-to-date information on the risks they may encounter.

The MFSA noted that scams are evolving quickly, becoming more sophisticated and harder to identify. That fast-changing picture, the authority explained, is precisely why a dedicated national resource of this kind is so valuable, giving people a reliable point of reference as new tactics appear.

The website offers information on the different types of scam that people might come across, along with tips on how to spot them. One example it highlights is the clone firm scam, where fraudsters create websites, adverts or emails that imitate genuine licensed financial providers. In such cases, the portal recommends checking the web address for subtle misspellings and looking for proper security encryption before sharing any details.

ScamAlert.mt also features a section dedicated to the latest warnings and announcements, keeping consumers informed as fresh threats are identified. A further section explains how to report a scam, alongside additional resources that point users towards the right support and guidance.

By drawing these elements together in one place, the portal gives consumers and businesses alike a straightforward way to stay informed and act quickly when something looks suspicious. The collaboration between the regulator, the police and the financial services arbiter reflects a coordinated national approach to consumer protection.

The launch marks a positive step for consumer confidence in Malta, reinforcing the country's reputation as a jurisdiction that takes the safety of its financial services users seriously. As digital services continue to expand, a single trusted source of guidance is well placed to help people navigate an increasingly complex landscape.
