Melita's Latest ESG Report Showcases its Commitment to Sustainable Digital Infrastructure

As sustainability becomes an increasingly central priority for Maltese businesses, Melita Limited's newest ESG report offers a snapshot of how one of the country's key telecoms and digital infrastructure providers is translating that shift into action, both environmentally and within local communities across the country.

On the environmental front, the company has pushed electric vehicles to 68% of its fleet and continued backing renewable energy projects, including its solar farm in Mqabba, alongside broader energy efficiency initiatives, part of a wider trend of Maltese companies investing in cleaner infrastructure amid growing pressure to reduce environmental impact. Melita has also maintained ISO 27001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications and continues to support the Science Based Targets initiative, aligning its approach with international standards.

The report also flags growing use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology to improve resource efficiency across sectors, an area with particular relevance to Malta given its ongoing efforts to modernise infrastructure and improve sustainability across industries from tourism to logistics.

Community investment features prominently too. Through The Melita Foundation, the company channelled €716,000 into more than 124 projects this year, supporting digital skills development, heritage preservation, creativity and environmental causes across Malta, areas increasingly recognised as priorities for the country's long-term social and economic resilience.

On the workforce side, Melita reported employee engagement ahead of target, with an employee Net Promoter Score of 28, and highlighted ongoing initiatives around diversity, flexible working and family-friendly practices, with women making up 34% of its workforce, reflecting broader conversations happening across Malta's business community about inclusive workplace practices.

CEO Harald Roesch linked the results to a broader shift underway locally: "Sustainability is increasingly integrated into the way businesses operate and create value," he said, pointing to the role technology and connectivity play in supporting more sustainable ways of living and working across the islands.
