Malta is cementing its status as a centre of excellence for aviation, with a wave of strategic investments and route expansions set to transform the Mediterranean island into a premier European aviation hub.
KM Malta Airlines is forecasting a remarkable 32% surge in package holiday bookings for next year, driven by new all-inclusive travel deals covering 18 destinations. The national carrier's comprehensive packages bundle flights, hotel accommodations, and services including generous baggage allowances and flexible airport transfers.
Meanwhile, Ryanair has unveiled its Winter 2025 schedule with six new routes connecting Malta to Glasgow, Gothenburg, Luxembourg, Norwich, Newcastle, and Palma, alongside a $100 million investment in a ninth based aircraft. The expansion is expected to carry over 5.2 million passengers through Malta in 2025, representing a 15% traffic increase, while creating 30 new jobs for pilots and cabin crew.

Adding to Malta's aviation credentials, earlier this year Lufthansa Technik Malta announced a €22 million investment in a new hangar for wide-body aircraft maintenance, including the Airbus A380 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner, creating 70 high-skilled jobs. The facility will serve as the world's first Boeing-licensed Service Centre for 787 Dreamliner cabin modifications under Lufthansa Technik's operations.
Malta's aviation industry contributes €600 million to the economy while fostering thousands of jobs. With projected package holiday booking growth of 49% by 2030, Malta's strategic positioning as both a tourist destination and maintenance hub demonstrates the island's multifaceted approach to aviation excellence, supported by government initiatives and private sector investment.
