Catena Media Launches Growth Ventures Arm With Strategic Investment In Collectibles Platform
Malta-headquartered Catena Media plc, which is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm, has taken a stake in Collectbase, the United States parent company of digital collectibles platform Repackz.fun. It is the first deal under Catena Growth Ventures, a new arm set up to invest in smaller, fast-growing digital businesses alongside the group’s main affiliate marketing operations. The investment was announced on 21st October.
Repackz works with gaming operators, consumer brands and online publishers, allowing them to offer their customers a digital version of opening a pack of collectible cards and other items. The cards are real and graded, and Repackz handles the sourcing, storage and delivery on the partner’s behalf. The arrangement also covers Collectibles.com, a site used by collectors to catalogue, value and share their collections. Catena Media’s role will be to introduce Repackz to the gaming operators and publishers it already works with, mainly in regulated online gaming markets.
The deal is the latest step in a reshaping of the group over the past two years. Catena Media’s core business is directing players to online casino and sports betting operators, with most of its activity in the regulated North American market. In 2024 it launched MRKTPLAYS, a platform through which smaller affiliates can work with operators via Catena, and added a MRKTPLAYS+ tier for verified partners in January this year. In the same month its PlayUSA.com brand introduced PlayPerks, the group’s first loyalty scheme for players.
The group reported a better start to 2026. Its first quarter interim report showed revenue up 26 per cent to 12.3 million euros and adjusted EBITDA up 191 per cent to 2.7 million euros, and the share price rose by around 9 per cent after the results were published in May. Catena Media has also been buying back its own shares, with its latest announcement covering buybacks carried out between 12 and 16 October.
A new platform built on the MRKTPLAYS infrastructure is due to go into final testing late this year, with a full launch planned for the first half of 2027. The Repackz stake sits alongside that work, giving the group a foothold in collectibles, a consumer market that overlaps with the gaming audiences it already reaches.
For Malta, the announcement is a reminder of the depth of the digital and gaming ecosystem that has grown up around the jurisdiction. Catena Media, headquartered in Malta and listed in both Valletta and Stockholm, is one of a cluster of internationally active technology businesses that continue to use the country as a base for expansion. As Catena Growth Ventures develops, further investments in emerging digital platforms can be expected to follow.
