Medical technology company Vantive has announced a €150 million investment to establish a new manufacturing and research facility in Ħal Far, marking the largest single foreign direct investment in Malta’s history. The project is expected to create around 250 jobs across the fields of science and technology, with construction scheduled to commence within the coming weeks.
The facility will produce essential plastic medical devices and consumables used in kidney care, supporting Vantive’s global mission to deliver life-extending equipment to patients worldwide. Demand for kidney care products continues to grow internationally, and the new plant will give the company significant additional capacity from a well-connected European base, serving patients across multiple markets.
Brian Tabone, Senior Director for Manufacturing Strategy at Vantive, said the company selected Malta because of its reputation in manufacturing, its strategic location, and the strength of its skilled workforce. He explained that the new site will allow Vantive to strengthen its local operations while continuing to deliver on its mission to support patients globally through reliable, high quality medical equipment.
The announcement signals a defining moment for Malta’s industrial trajectory, deepening an established pharmaceutical and medical technology ecosystem and reinforcing the country's position as a hub for high value, export-oriented industry. The commitment also represents an important milestone in a broader strategy of moving up the value chain and embedding research-intensive activity alongside established manufacturing strengths.
