Malta’s Digital Asset Ecosystem Takes Centre Stage in Warsaw

A conference held in Warsaw earlier this month brought Malta’s established reputation in digital asset regulation into sharp focus, as industry leaders, fund managers, regulators, and digital asset professionals gathered to explore the evolving European landscape for digital asset funds and the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation.

The event - Digital Asset Funds and MiCA: Malta's Established Advantage - was organised by FinanceMalta in partnership with the Malta Asset Servicing Association (MASA). It was particularly timely given that the end of the MiCA grandfathering period is fast approaching while Poland remains the only EU member state without a domestic digital asset framework.

The conference underscored that Malta’s early mover advantage is not simply historical. For jurisdictions and firms now navigating the complexities of MiCA compliance, Malta’s years of hands-on experience represent a tangible and practical resource. Speakers and panellists examined how Malta’s framework aligns with and complements MiCA, and what that means for fund managers considering where to domicile and operate within the EU.

The event was attended by His Excellency Gavin Gulia, Ambassador of Malta to Poland, reflecting the broader diplomatic and economic significance of Malta’s growing role as a centre of excellence for digital asset regulation in Europe.

As MiCA continues to reshape the competitive landscape across EU member states, events such as this serve an important function - not only in promoting Malta’s offering, but in facilitating the cross-border dialogue that will define how the European digital asset industry matures in the years ahead.
