Malta's chief executives are demonstrating remarkable resilience against a backdrop of declining global business confidence, with 92% expecting stable or improved economic conditions in the coming months, according to the latest PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) CEO Confidence Tracker.

The optimistic outlook from Malta-based business leaders contrasts with international sentiment, where just 30% of CEOs worldwide express confidence about revenue growth over the next 12 months, the lowest level recorded in five years. In contrast, Maltese executives reported strong performances in 2025, with 69% achieving improved financial results despite global headwinds.

“Malta's CEOs are navigating global uncertainty from a position of relative resilience,” said Lucienne Pace Ross, Territory Senior Partner at PwC Malta. “The contrast with the global confidence dip underscores the importance for Malta-based companies to stay the course on transformation, especially AI foundations and cyber preparedness, while continuing to invest for growth.”

Globally, PwC's 2025 CEO Survey reveals mounting concerns about technological transformation, with 42% of executives questioning whether they're adapting quickly enough to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital change. This exceeds worries about innovation capability or long-term viability, both cited by 29% of respondents.

The research highlights that cybersecurity concerns have intensified sharply, with 31% of global CEOs now identifying it as a major threat, up from 24% last year. Malta is already on the front foot when it comes to cyber resilience and last year hosted a Cyber Security Summit where it welcomed both industry and regulatory experts.

Despite challenges, business leaders are pursuing ambitious reinvention strategies, with 42% globally having entered new sectors over the past five years, demonstrating continued appetite for transformation and growth.

Malta’s sustained business confidence suggests that local companies have successfully positioned themselves to weather international uncertainty whilst maintaining momentum on strategic priorities, offering an encouraging outlook for the jurisdiction's economic prospects in 2026.
