Malta International Airport Among Europe's Strongest Performers In April

Malta International Airport (MIA) posted passenger traffic growth of 13.5% in April, one of the strongest performances across Europe, according to Airports Council International (ACI). The ACI analysis examined traffic trends across European airports during the month, placing Malta firmly among the continent's leading performers.

The positive momentum carried into May, when the airport welcomed 1.08 million passengers, the company confirmed in a statement. The results point to sustained and broadening demand for travel to Malta as the summer season gathers pace.

Much of the growth has been supported by an expanded summer schedule featuring more than 110 destinations, including three new routes launched last month. Additional flights contributed to an 18.6% rise in seat capacity. Even with this expansion, the airport filled 83.5% of available seats. 

MIA linked the figures to a wider pattern identified by the European Travel Commission (ETC), which found that southern European and Mediterranean destinations were the preferred summer choice for European travellers this year. That trend has worked in Malta's favour, reinforcing its position as a sought-after destination during the peak Summer months.

Overall, the figures signal continued confidence in Malta as a travel destination and offer encouraging momentum for the wider tourism and aviation sectors as the season progresses.
