KM Malta Airlines has marked a successful start to its new direct service between Malaga and Malta, with the inaugural flight departing on 27 May. The fully booked service left Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport in the early evening for the journey of just under three hours, carrying many holidaymakers travelling to Malta for the first time.

The launch was celebrated at both ends of the route. At Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport, head of airport Pedro Alberto Bendal greeted the airline's pilots, crew and the wider team behind the new connection, while organisers offered celebratory cake and refreshments to passengers and staff in a festive atmosphere. Officials at Malta International Airport similarly marked the arrival of the first flight from Spain.

The bi-weekly service running on Wednesdays and Sundays forms part of KM Malta Airlines' summer 2026 programme, broadening the choice of destinations available to travellers across the Mediterranean. The development supports continued growth in tourism and air links between the two countries, with the airline expressing optimism about extending the route towards a possible year-round schedule.

The introduction of Malaga is a notable addition to the airline's network for the season, reinforcing Malta's position as a leading destination within the Mediterranean tourism sector. As the summer programme builds, the new connection underlines the growing appetite for direct travel between Spain and Malta, and points to further opportunities for both carriers and the wider visitor economy in the months ahead.
