Malta's financial services sector is gearing up for its flagship industry gathering with the FinanceMalta Conference set to take place on 19 and 20 November at the Hilton, Malta. Now in its eighteenth year, the two-day event will bring together regulators, policymakers, and industry leaders all under one roof.

Anticipation has been building for the Conference with FinanceMalta announcing last month that it has secured record support from the industry. This year 45 firms had been confirmed as sponsors, up from 38 last year and reflecting the “increasingly strong confidence of our industry in Malta’s financial services ecosystem,” said Bernice Buttigieg, Chief Strategy Officer at FinanceMalta. Along with the industry collaboration, it is also set to be the most sustainable with one tree planted for every delegate who registers.

The conference is set to open with a keynote speech from FinanceMalta Chairman George Vella, followed by a panel discussion on raising quality standards across Malta's financial services. This discussion will feature Kenneth Farrugia, the CEO of Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA); Joseph Zammit Tabona, former Maltese High Commissioner to the UK & Northern Ireland and Chairman of Malta Financial Services Advisory Council (MFSAC); along with senior figures from European Investment Fund and Bank of Valletta. There will also be fireside chats on topics ranging from a small nation’s role in a digitally-driven financial world to the interplay of geo economics and the future of finance. Day One will wrap up with spotlight sessions on key trends shaping Malta’s financial future including family offices, aircraft leasing and AI.

Day Two features high-profile addresses from Finance Minister Hon. Clyde Caruana and EU Commissioner for Financial Services Maria Luís Albuquerque, underscoring Malta's position within European financial markets. There will also be an address by Malta’s Shadow Minister for the Economy and Enterprise, Hon Jerome Caruana Cilia. There will then be a series of breakout sessions  covering ESG integration, digital asset management, capital markets development, and captive insurance.

Key themes running throughout include artificial intelligence's impact on financial services, fintech transformation, and navigating evolving global tax regulations. Industry experts will explore how Malta's specialisation in niche financial services—from aircraft leasing to family offices—drives its global positioning.

With networking receptions and expert-led discussions spanning sustainable finance, regulatory compliance, and investment attraction strategies, the conference represents a comprehensive examination of Malta's financial services landscape and its future trajectory in an increasingly digitalised global economy. If you are unable to attend, Business News Malta will be at the conference and reporting live on the key elements.
