FinanceMalta Explores New Opportunities In The US Market

FinanceMalta is looking at ways to strengthen Malta's presence in North America, with early discussions underway for a dedicated financial services event in New York in spring 2027.

Speaking at FinanceMalta's annual networking event at Villa Bighi, chairman George Vella said the organisation is engaging with relevant stakeholders, including the US Embassy in Malta, to explore the initiative. He linked the move to recent improvements in connectivity between Malta and the United States, which he said have opened up new opportunities for investment promotion and international engagement.

The proposed New York event would build on FinanceMalta's existing international outreach, including its established presence at the annual Guildhall event in London. Vella noted that as financial services become more global, investors increasingly look for jurisdictions offering both regulatory certainty and strong international connectivity, and that keeping Malta visible in strategic markets remains a priority for the sector.

FinanceMalta's Chief Strategy Officer, Dr Bernice Buttigieg, also addressed the event and announced the publication of the organisation's Annual Report for 2025. She said the report reflects an industry that, through collaboration with the Malta Financial Services Advisory Council (MFSAC), has confirmed itself as one of Malta's key economic pillars, employing close to 20,000 people, with Buttigieg describing the sector as one that "continues to create opportunities" reaching beyond financial services itself.

Buttigieg added that effective international promotion is central to Malta's ability to compete for investment, talent, and business opportunities, and pointed to North America as an increasingly important market for the sector going forward.
